UK artist George Ezra gave listeners a pleasant surprise with the release of ‘Hold My Girl’, the eighth track off of his much-awaited sophomore album Staying at Tamara’s.
‘Hold My Girl’ is a sweet and thoughtful ballad that features Ezra’s signature baritone vocals but without that rambunctious, high octane spirit of crowd favourites like ‘Budapest’ and ‘Cassy O’. Ezra’s voice and lyrics seem to resonate deeper within the simplicity of the track. The arrangement of the guitar, piano, strings and percussion in ‘Hold My Girl’ overflows through each line sung, allowing listeners to ride through the emotions of the song.
To me, ‘Hold My Girl’ is a window into the more serious and tender corners of Ezra’s music. Sure, its much slower and more romantic than his previous tracks, but honestly, I’m not mad because it’s another testament to how versatile he is as an artist. The only thing I am mad about is that it took him two long years to release new music.
Staying at Tamara’s will be released on the 23rd March worldwide. For the time being, be sure to check out other tracks from George Ezra’s upcoming album here.
